Friday 27th February
It's been a busy week, with a new fitted bedroom going in at home, and the subsequent decorating to follow. I've struggled to find a couple of spare hours to spend on the allotment - until today that is. Jenny and I shared a cuppa and a chat outside her shed before I got started, while Peter got on with putting up the gate. He's enjoyed building the gate out of hardwood pallets and it's a very sturdy piece of kit. It looks great and should do the trick keeping the dogs and deer out. Only trouble is there's plenty of other ways in.
We moved the bath down to the hollow at the bottom, as I've definitely decided to make it into a pond. I dug over some more ground on the prospective potato patch - it's much easier to dig now, but the bindweed is daunting. I'm not even attempting to pull it out as I plan to put weed-killer down once it starts to grow. I raked up some of the debris left from the floods, but there's still lots more. The red cabbage are doing well and looking healthy, and the rhubarb is beginning to show so I've covered it with a couple of old pots. The weeds are beginning to grow now so I did some hoeing here and there, and Peter raked over some of the soil where the floods had left it looking smooth and flat.
