Stringy beans!

The runner beans I picked on Sunday were dreadful - short and fat rather than long and thin - and very stringy. They all went in the compost bin. I did find some lovely french beans though - crunchy and tender.
I've been spending a good deal of time watering lately mostly the tomatoes, celeriac and butternut squash. The squash don't seem to have found water yet as every time I go down they are wilting. I dug up the remaining new potatoes today and was again surprised by their size.
Kevin's plot is looking very neglected - he's had a busy time lately, what with a wedding and a honeymoon to plan. However he's got some potatoes and onions ready to pick. Where are you Kevin - the slugs will have 'em before you do!
I have loads of marigolds coming up all over the plot, and although they look pretty, I don't want them to increase a hundred fold next year, so I pulled most of them up today. I decided to pick the two large marrows today as I think they are stopping any further courgettes from developing. I'll have to try and give the marrows away, or sell them as we're not keen.
