Monday 27th October
A beautiful Autumn day today, so I spent a couple of hours enjoying the sunshine this afternoon. I prepared the soil ready to plant the broad beans - digging in some manure and raking it over first. I put in 4 rows East to West, in a block as I've heard that they are better grown like this. The weather looked a bit ominous at one point, and there was a short shower, but not enough to put me off, and the sun was soon shining again. However, it rained yesterday so the soil was very sticky and my boots were soon carrying an inch or two of mud. I did some weeding over by the grape vine today, the weeds pulled out easily despite the heavy soil. I decided to put some more weedkiller on the other half. I have to remember that I can't do it all at once, and as long as I keep the weeds down over there, I can work on it at a later date. I must remember to bring my camera next time before all the weeds are gone. The hour went back at the weekend so it's getting dark much earlier. However, there was a beautiful setting sun in the sky when I left.
