Saturday October 25th
We managed to get a couple of hours in this afternoon before the rain and strong winds came. I carried on weeding the asparagus bed, but had to resort to hand weeding as some of the weeds were too close to the asparagus crowns. There are some weeds growing right in amongst the asparagus which have a leaf resembling the clover leaf only smaller and red in colour. The roots are also red and they are difficult to get out without disturbing the asparagus. I am the only person ever to confuse the bindweed roots with the asparagus roots? They seem very similar in size, but are grey in colour whereas the bindweed roots are white. And of course the asparagus roots are attached to the asparagus plants - there's a clue there! Peter took apart the remaining pallet and began building the raised bed for the blueberry bushes. He also got a fire going and got rid of a lot of rubbish from the other half. He picked some more beans and we gave them to our neighbours who seemed genuinely pleased.
