Friday 14th November
I can't believe it's been over a week since I was last down on the plot. It looked so different today. Most of the leaves have gone from the hedge that separates me from the river, and with buddliea gone as well, it gave the whole place a much more open look. I could see the river quite clearly and it was so high that I felt I was standing at about river level. It won't take much for the river to be in flood. I wasn't sure what I was going to do today, but was sure something would inspire me once I got there. I took some rock salt with me which Gren had given me. He said it was good for spreading around the asparagus plants to keep the weeds down, and that asparagus plants were the only ones which would tolerate salt. Anything to help control the weeds. I started doing some hand weeding around the asparagus, then spread the rock salt around each plant. It was a perfect day for being outdoors - very mild at 14 degrees and with the sun shining it was quite warm. I noticed that the garlic plants are doing well, but no sign of the onions or the broad beans yet. I planted some old onions from the garden at home - ones which had been left in the garden too long and had started growing again. They weren't very big. so I thought if I planted them again .......... maybe they'd grow a little bigger!! I moved the old bean plants to the newly cleared compost bin and also added some egg shells from home. As I tidied up there was a beautiful orange sun in the sky to the west, and a pink glow in the east - magic.
