Boxing Day 2008

We took the whole family down to the plot today. Neil and Sorrel had bought me a pear tree, a gooseberry bush and a blueberry bush for Christmas, so they were keen to see the allotment for the first time and where we might plant the new bushes. They brought Imogen down with them but she stayed in the car fast asleep. Martin came too along with Matthew, Lee Ann and Brittany who are all staying with us over Christmas. They were all amazed by the size of the plot and I think that if Neil lived just down the road, he would have been sharing the plot with me. Matthew and Lee Ann are keen outdoors people and if it weren't for their plans to return to live in Canada in the New Year, I think they too would be keen on growing their own veg. They bought me some purple carrot seeds to plant, so I'm keen to see how they turn out. We took some photos of everyone and proudly showed them our Newfoundland flag - our three Newfie friends were most impressed.
After they'd all gone Peter and I stayed to plant our three new bushes. It was a lovely sunny morning - perfect for a bit of outdoor exercise. We found a good place for the pear tree near the other new trees - we'll have to refer to that bit as the orchard from now on. We put the gooseberry next to the other fruit bushes and planted the blueberry in the raised bed. Just as we were leaving, Chris and Elaine came by for a walk and asked what flag it was. We all stood back to admire our work, and at how much we had achieved in just 5 months.
