Wednesday 11th February
With the recent heavy rains and the snow beginning to melt, Peter went yesterday to see if the rising river had begun to flood the allotment. He reported that it was about half under water with the river still rising. I went down first thing this morning to see how much the river had risen. As I was driving down the lane, I was shocked to see that the end of the lane was
completely submerged. I couldn't park in my usual place in front of the plot. I could just stand by the shed without getting my feet wet, but the whole of the plot apart from one corner of the shed was under water. The river was rushing by at an alarming
pace, and the new frame Peter had built me was floating free. All the new trees were under water. I managed to take some photos from Bernie's plot, but even his plot was half under water. We'll just have to wait and see what the damage is when the water subsides.
