Tiller Man

Thursday 26th March
I had an appointment this morning, so couldn't join Peter first thing on the plot. However, I was surprised to receive a text from him to say he'd been down there since 9.30! He had borrowed John's rotavator, and when I arrived he'd pretty much dug over all the weeded areas, which were awaiting planting. He was under strict instructions not to do any areas which I hadn't weeded. Of course he had been carried away, and done more than he was supposed to! I have to say though, it looks great, and the soil is now a fine tilth. I'll be able to get my potatoes in now. I wasn't dressed for the job, but wanted to have a go myself. It was jolly hard work, and the machine was difficult to turn. Doing it properly meant keeping the rotavator in one place for a few seconds, but I found that it dug itself into a hole and I couldn't persuade it to move forwards again. At least I knew how hard it was, and why Peter fell asleep in the afternoon!
