Wednesday 8th April
Great excitement today as the first of the asparagus is ready to be picked! Only five shoots mind you, and the fattest one came from the plant inside the cold frame! I was doing some weeding when Peter popped down to join me. He likes to keep an eye on how well things are growing, and he noticed the asparagus. We'll have to have salmon for dinner tonight.
I was treated to a pair graceful swans flying overhead today. They fly so low, as they're geting ready to land, that you almost feel you could reach up and touch them.
I carried on with the weeding. Even though the soil's been rotivated it's still quite hard work. I was on the point of giving up when things became much easier - I hit the patch which had been dug during the winter. Most of the weeds were gone and the soil was much finer. I managed to finish the weeding in just three hours, but was too tired to do any raking. I'll have to come back tomorrow to lay the grass seed.
