Friday 24th April
I seem to have a mental block about planting lettuce. Can't decide whether to plant straight into the ground or into seed trays. I keep taking the seed packet to the allotment and bringing it home again. However, after talking to Lauren this morning, I took the bull by the horns and planted some Lollo Rosso into a seed tray. Hurray! At least it's a start.
We had a quick visit yesterday to take down a set of drawers which are surplus to requirements. They will be of good service in the allotment shed - providing nobody decides to help themselves. I did a bit of weeding and edging, Peter did some watering and he altered the spikes on the cloche. They were much too sturdy and more suited to tethering a boat!
We had a quick look to see how the robin's eggs were doing. Two of the eggs have hatched although the tiny birds didn't look very lively. One was moving weakly. We wondered if they'd just hatched on their own, as it's been very warm this week. Sadly there isn't much we can do to help. We had a cup of black tea yesterday as sadly I left the milk at home. Didn't quite hit the spot.
