Saturday 4th April
We spent the afternoon pottering on the plot - should that be 'plottering' I wonder? I finished the edges of the path with boards wrapped in empty compost sacks, and spread all the rubble I could find on top. I was going to use some of the leylandii chippings on top of that, but Peter didn't think it was a good idea. I planted up the area next to the path with two rows of beet seeds - should have waited though, and planted the second row in three weeks time. Otherwise they'll all be ready at the same time. Peter made a cloche using the thin blue piping and a sheet of polythene.
We found a suitable piece of wood to make a wind shelter for the primus stove, and soon had the kettle boiling. We sat under the peach tree in the sunshine, for our well-deserved cuppa.
