Monday 6th April
Peter almost got the cold frame finished today. He's made it taller all round and put the hinge on the back. There's one lonely asparagus plant in there, which is doing very well under the glass.
I set about removing the rest of the sedge grass from the orchard area. I need to remove all the large weeds as I'm hoping to be able to borrow the rototiller again tomorrow. I'm keen to get the area weeded, raked and sown with grass seed before the rain comes later in the week.
We went back to the nursery today, to see about buying an apple tree with my birthday gift voucher. While we were there, we asked about when the frame should come off the peach tree. He said not until the blossom has gone and all the leaves are out. Of course you've still got the polythene cover on, haven't you, to prevent it getting peach leaf curl? Oops, well actually no. We thought it was only there for frost protection. We popped by on the way home, to put the cover back in place.
We're just a bit late for buying a non-container grown apple tree, so we either wait until the Autumn or buy one in a container. We bought three thornless loganberries to be going on with.
