Monday 4th May
Yes, it's May bank holiday today - cold, windy and showery - typical!! We went down to the plot after the usual dancing on the green and did a bit of watering. There's been plenty of rain forecast lately, but not much has fallen here. We planted the maincrop potatoes - King Edwards. The soil wasn't in great condition and there were loads of weeds. However, the potatoes probably won't mind - I'll just have to pull the weeds out as they grow. We were just about to pack up as the rain started to get heavier, when Martin rang to say he was going to call in. We invited him to come by the plot and see the baby robins. They are filling the nest now and have feathers and their eyes are open. Martin was delighted with the robins. It's such a joy to be able to see them so easily. He was also suitably impressed with how much we have growing now, as he hasn't been down since Christmas.
