This year is a very busy year - we've just returned from yet another week away - this time in Canada for a wedding. It was great to meet up with old friends and to help them celebrate their son's wedding.
Now it's back to the grindstone. I feel I must have about 6 week's work to catch up on. The weeds in some areas are almost as tall as they were when we took over the plot last July!
While I was weeding, Kevin arrived with his fiancee Lauren - they've just got engaged so it was congratulations all round and a chance to admire the beautiful ring. He'd brought Lauren down to show her all the hard work he's been doing lately. Sadly something had eaten all his broccoli plants, but the carrots are surviving and the curly kale is thriving. Everywhere was bone dry - it doesn't look like there's been much rain while we've been away.
I've lost all my three cucumber plants - probably lack of water - but the squash plant is making progress.
I picked some good sized beetroot today, they needed picking to let the others have room to grow. It's exciting coming home with a box full of goodies - much more satisfying than when the veg box used to be delivered. As well as the beet I picked a very large onion, some garlic, more broad beans, some lovely sweet strawberries and a bunch of sweet peas.
