It was pretty hot on Thursday so we put an hour in before going off to the auction at eleven o clock. Peter had spotted some plastic piping and some rolls of chicken wire which he thought would come in handy. He managed to bid successfully for both items and got a sack trolley and some rope thrown in as well. Each lot went for £12 which we thought was good value. It was my first time at the auction and was quite an experience. I was surprised to find that everything in the outside auction was sold in just an hour. I left Peter there and went back to the allotment to finish weeding and raking the onion bed ready for planting the green manure. Peter had managed to secure a few more lots by the time I went back, some for Katherine and some for ourselves.
Friday. Peter put the new yellow piping into action today to attach to the water pump. It has a larger diameter than the other pipe so took only 10 minutes to half fill the tank. His previous purchase at the auction was an old hose reel for £3, so we used this to water the newly planted green manure and the leek plants. I picked lots of blackberries today, also beans and dahlias.
