Sunday 25th October. Having been away again - Scotland this time - I just had to pop down this afternoon to see how things were getting on. There's lots of tidying up and digging to do. The broccoli and sprouts are growing well and I haven't lost any more so that's a good sign. I dug over the ground around the artichoke plants and removed the old artichoke heads. They've dropped seeds everywhere so I expect there'll be lots of new plants next year. It's been so mild lately that there's lots of new growth on them.
Jenny stopped by for a chat and we had a look round the plot - I'm always keen to show off my handiwork.
Wednesday 28th. It's so warm today - at 19C it's just like a summer's day! I tidied up the border beside the gate and put in some primula plants which I'd split up. It looks a bit more welcoming now. Next I removed the old sunflower plants. There was no point in leaving them for the birds as all the seeds were gone. I discovered some self-seeded sweet peas after I'd pulled out the sunflowers - it's obviously time to start planting them to get a head start on the spring. I found a stray asparagus plant in the border which I put into Kev's corner along with a spare raspberry cane.
I was planting the red onion sets when Sarah stopped by for a chat. Sadly I can't make her get-together this afternoon. I cut down some of the grape vine which was overhanging the path - it's been long overdue for a chop. There's still plenty left to do next time - the French and runner beans to compost, the rest of the asparagus to cut down and the sweet peas to plant. Just when I thought things were slowing down!
