Spring at last!

When I turned the corner onto the allotment today there were cars parked and people working. Spring was in the air.
Last week I spent two mornings digging over the area for the potatoes and planted two bags of Spring sown shallots.
Today the weather was perfect for a little more gentle digging. The soil is damp and mostly weed-free - not like last year when I put in many hours of back-breaking work removing the weeds. I did a little digging over and planted some Spring broad beans. The winter beans are beginning to grow well now especially the ones under the cloche. Peter organised the log pile and placed some wooden panels along the bottom edges of the fence to deter the rabbits. He also started to tie in the peach tree to the horizontal supports.
