A light covering of snow

Monday 5th January
There was a light covering of snow this morning, so I wasn't sure just what I'd be able to accomplish. However, the sun was trying to shine, so I set off hopefully. There were other tracks in the snow when I arrived, but no sign of anyone. The sun came out and made everywhere look very picturesque, so I took a few photos before it all melted. I gave the blueberry bush another blanket of ericaceous compost, then started digging over in the 'orchard.' There was only a little resistance on the snowy surface, and underneath the ground was quite easy to dig. The big bonus was that I could stand on the hard ground and not get my boots stuck in the mud. In fact, my boots were cleaner when I finished than when I started. As I was digging, I was alerted by a loud noise, almost like a gun going off. As I turned towards the river, I saw two swans landing on the water. It was the beating of their wings as they landed which I'd heard. I wasn't able to see them from the plot so I took my new camera with it's ten times zoom and walked round to where I could see six beautiful swans swimming near the weir. Yes, 6 swans-a-swimming no less, how apt, or was it seven? I was treated to a magnificent display of two of them taking off again, but didn't manage to capture them on camera. On returning to my digging, the friendly robin arrived to keep me company and I was able to catch him on my camera too. I took Bernie's tip before I left and placed my muddy fork and my boots, in an old zinc bath of water to clean them. Brilliant idea.
