The first grass cut!

Peter managed to adjust the cutting blade on the lawn mower last week and he attempted to cut the grass for the first time. It's a temperamental beast of a machine and needed a lot of coaxing to get it to run properly. However, the grassy area is looking much improved now, without the weeds on show. The ground is very uneven and there were a lot of small stones thrown up, but all in all we're very pleased with our 'orchard'. There are a few bare patches, but I'll wait now and sew more grass seed in September.
It rained a little yesterday - not really enough to make much difference, but at least the sun wasn't baking the earth even more. I'm beginning to understand what it must be like to live in a hot country when the rains don't arrive and the crops fail. I'm lucky with the river so nearby.
