Lurking onions

Thursday. I took up the marigold plants today - and found a row of onions lurking beneath! The onions have been very successful and we have half a sack stored in the shed. I used some today to make soup at the Soup Kitchen which I run once a month. I used the large butternut squash which weighed over 4 pounds, and also some home-grown garlic, so I billed it as Home-grown Butternut Squash and Apple soup. Delicious!! I weeded between the leeks and hoed some of the weeds on the potato bed. That was enough for today after standing all morning making soup.
The red cabbage has suddenly taken off and is beginning to fill out. Only last week I picked the last remaining one from last year! The sprouts and broccoli plants are still surviving so with the leeks as well and with a bit of luck there should be quite a few things to pick over the winter. Terry Walton would be proud of me!
