We put up our lovely new allotment plaque on the side of the shed today. Lauren and Kev bought it for us for Christmas.
The weather wasn't ideal for working on the plot - cold and windy - but we had decided to try and finish the work on the fencing. We started up the fire first - at least that was a warm job - then Peter threaded a wire through the bottom of the fencing and held it in place with long home-made staples. I dug over the area where the parsnips had been growing. I found another twelve or so parsnips of varying size. I washed them all free of mud when I got home. One was huge and weighed a pound and a quarter. I just hope it's not too woody.
All our purple sprouting broccoli plants have gone! They were half eaten whe we came last week and when we came today the rabbits had finished them all off. I thought that the black netting was pretty strong as it had kept them out all winter but obviously not strong enough.
Charlie turned up just as we were leaving. He told us that the floods on the Sunday had been up to his shed, so much further than last year. We didn't get back to see them but I think Jenny may have some pictures.
